Marijuana Use Highly Addictive, Leads to Hard Drug Use, Dangerous to Health

Cannabis use can be more addicting than Heroin

Cannabis is highly addictive, causes mental health problems and opens the door to hard drugs, has numerous dangerous health side effects, according to a new study.

The comprehensive 20 year study was performed by Professor Wayne Hall, a British addiction expert.

This important study found marijuana:

  • Highly Addictive. One in six teenagers who regularly smoke the drug become dependent on it.
  • Mental Disorders. Cannabis doubles the risk of developing psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia
  • Leads to Hard Drug Use. One in ten adults who regularly smoke marijuana become dependent on it and those who use it are more likely to go on to use harder drugs.
  • Harmful to Children. Smoking marijuana while pregnant reduces the baby’s birth weight, potentially causing serious long lasting health problems.
  • Dangerous while Driving. Driving after smoking marijuana doubles the risk of having a crash or accident.
  • Intellectual Impairment. Heavy use in adolescence appears to impair intellectual development and lowers educational attainment.
  • Other studies have suggested that marijuana could alter the sperm production process, shrink male testicles, cause male infertility and damages men's sperm. See Marijuana Use Damages the size, shape and motility of Men's Sperm.

"It is often harder to get people who are dependent on cannabis through withdrawal than for heroin" , according to Professor Hall. Those who try to stop taking cannabis often suffer anxiety, insomnia, appetite disturbance and depression, he found. Even after treatment, less than half can stay off the drug for six months.

Professor Halls primary finding is that regular marijuana use, especially among teenagers, leads to long-term mental health problems and addiction.

Why do the media elites refuse to publish studies that show marijuana is dangerous to health?
