The use of psychostimulants in children and adolescents is associated with nearly twice the risk for a cardiovascular events compared with nonuse of the drugs. The risk is even higher when these drugs are used for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
The damage these medications cause to our youth’s cardiovascular health include arrhythmias, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, pulmonary heart disease, heart failure, heart disease caused by rheumatic fever, cerebrovascular disease and general cardiovascular disease.
This study was conducted by scientists in Denmark who studied 714,258 young people over a 10 year period. Their study group included the largest pool of its kind.
Their study on the cardiovascular safety of these ADHD medications in children and adolescents is the longest prospective follow-up study to date.
This study is more evidence of the very damaging side effects these mood altering medications are having on the health of children and adolescents.
These mood altering medications have been medically shown to also cause significant weight gain, Type 2 Diabetes, sexual dysfunction, suicidal thoughts and behavoir, birth and infant brain defects, liver damage and more. See Antidepressants – SSRIs Cause Serious Side Effects
These serious side effects have prompted a doctors group to recently form to advocate to limit antipsychotics use except in cases of a clinical diagnosis of severe depression. See Doctor Group seeks to Limit Antipsychotics use due to Harmful Side Effects.
Have the psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians and school administrators who continue to overprescribe and overrecommend these medications become our modern day crows?
