Mood, Vitamin D stores, alertness, sleep quality 💛🛌🧠
You can spend the whole day indoors without planning to. Our routines make it surprisingly easy.
Sometimes we only notice how little daylight we’ve seen when the day is almost over.
When so much of the working day happens inside, going outdoors can become something we reserve for the weekend.🌄☀️🧑🌾
That’s something I’ve become more conscious of as I’ve paid more attention to my health.
Spending more time in daylight can support our bodies in different ways.
Even relatively short periods outside can help👇
After a few minutes
↳ Natural light can help us feel more awake and support our mood.
Around 10 minutes
↳ Daylight gives your brain signals that support alertness and your body clock.
As you spend longer outside
↳ Continued exposure helps reinforce your body’s natural daily rhythm.
That’s why I try to get outside throughout the day.
A short walk in the morning is a good place to start.🚶➡️🚶♀️➡️
If the weather allows, have lunch outside too.
And while we’ve still got some summer evenings left, spend more of them outdoors.
You can still do this when the sun isn’t shining.
Even on a cloudy day, outdoor daylight is generally much brighter than indoors.
So don’t let grey skies stop you from going outside.
What’s your favourite way to spend time outdoors?
