Just three consecutive nights of insufficient sleep stresses cardiovascular system
A new study published by Swedish research university Uppsala Universitet (Lack of sleep can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease) found “Even a few nights with insufficient sleep promote molecular mechanisms linked to a greater risk of heart problems“. Even in young and healthy adults risk cardiovascular stress from three consecutive nights of insufficient sleep.
The study found that lack of sleep increases the presence of inflammatory proteins.
Exercise can somewhat offset the damage caused by lock of sleep, However, “It’s important to point out that studies have also shown that physical exercise can offset at least some of the negative effects that poor sleep can cause. But it’s also important to note that exercise cannot replace the essential functions of sleep,” says Jonathan Cedernaes of Uppsala University.
A chronic lack of sleep has been linked to an increased risk of heart attack, stroke and atrial fibrillation.
Good heart and cardiovascular health is achieved through a healthy lifestyle of exercise, nutrition, weight managed stress and sleep.
