The 7 Types of Rest

Building strong nerve force

You are not short of sleep. You are short of a specific kind of rest, and you have been treating all seven as one.

That is why the early night did not work. You were topping up the only tank you know how to fill.

Framework for Holistic Recovery

The seven👇
Physical. Sleep and stillness. The one everybody knows
Mental. A break from decisions, not from work. Deficit shows as rereading the same paragraph
Sensory. Distance from screens, noise, notifications. Shows as irritability at small sounds
Creative. Exposure to things you did not make. Shows as everything you produce feeling derivative
Emotional. Somewhere you do not have to manage how you appear. Shows as exhaustion after social events you enjoyed
Social. Time with people who take rather than give energy, removed. Shows as dreading arrangements you made
Spiritual. Contact with something larger than the work. Shows as competence without meaning

The typical pattern

The pattern I see.

Almost everyone is fully topped up on one or two and running on empty in another, and they respond by doing more of what they are already full of.

More sleep does not fix a creative deficit. A quiet weekend does not fix an emotional one. The tank you can fill is rarely the tank that is empty.

The bottom line

Match the rest to the deficit or you will keep resting and keep feeling the same.
✅ Read the seven. Name the one you have not had in a month
✅Take that one deliberately this week, even for an hour

💬 Which of the seven have you not had properly this year?
