Nighttime Light Impacts Heart Health

Sleeping in darkness🌑🛏️🌌

Protect your nights.
Protect your heart.

That’s the finding from a newly published study looking at nighttime light exposure and changes to cardiac structure and function. See European Society of Cardiology Too Much Light at Night Changes the Shape and Working of the Heart

The study followed 73,286 people for 8–10 years. Compared to those sleeping in the dark, high nighttime light exposure was linked to a significantly higher risk of 👇

☑️Stroke: +33%
☑️Heart Failure: +29%
☑️ Cardiovascular Disease Mortality: +26%
☑️Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction): +24%
☑️Atrial Fibrillation: +15%

As for that “high” light threshold – it was just 3 lux. That’s roughly equivalent to dim streetlight coming into your room or that annoying light creeping in under your door.

3 lux is also enough to start suppressing your melatonin release, the hormone and master antioxidant running your overnight repair cycle.

How to test your bedroom at night

Want to know if your bedroom is dark enough at night?
Here’s my uber technical method.

Put your hand in front of your face.
If you can see your hand, it’s too bright.

Bright days + dark nights = healthier heart.
So simple. Completely free.
